Once upon a time there lived a boy who lived far away. He traveled many places, but no matter where he went he was always distant. This boy loved watching and meeting people, and loved travelling to see how people in different places thought differently and acted differently and kissed differently.

The hero of this story made mistakes just like most other people make mistakes. He liked challenges and wagers and girls, so when one day he was challenged, for a bit of money, to get a girl, he made a mistake. He said yes.

Hands were shook, and all of a sudden there is money involved in this affair of the heart, which is never a good thing. If you've seen the movie, rest assured that this time the girl does not get wise to the bet. Three weeks to try, but it's over in two weeks.

The challenge was made even harder by the fact that one of the other people involved in the wager had already made a date with this girl for a few days later. The boy is not threatened, at all. That night comes, and the other suitor, who has been planning this for a long time, takes her out and does many things that he thinks are good date things, and then brings her back to the local tavern and proceeds to get the girl drunk. Getting her drunk, this other suitor thinks, is the easiest way to get what he wants. The hero of our story is in the opposite side of the bar, not knowing what is going on. Our hero walks to the other side and tries to get in the men's bathroom, but the girl is in there. She comes out and grabs this boy's hand and leans her head on his shoulder and says she wants him to take her home. He's standing there, fingers entwined with hers, looking at the other suitor sitting at the table (who, incidentally, is the roommate of our hero!), and this boy, this hero, he says, "Sure."

Our hero wouldn't be a hero if he took advantage of girls in this situation. He takes her home and puts her to bed and that is the end of the story of that night, but not of the story of the bet.

This girl, she says she is seeing somebody who lives 400 miles away. This boy doesn't understand what she means, because his eyes just aren't that good. For the next four days, every day she sends him text messages asking him to go out with her. 'Go out' meaning just that, not meaning go steady or go out on a date, but really just go out on the town. Every day she asks him to go out with her, and every evening he picks her up and she introduces him to all of her friends and all of the drama that they bring with them. And then four days later he sends her a text message saying exactly this: "I don't want to fuck you."

Still, they go out, and he is nice and good and heroic and a week later, even before the end of the bet, he hands two of his friends some money, and each of them smirks and says, "Can't do it?" Trying to explain, this boy says, "I don't want to."
