Charlie laughed when his wife asked him about the new tax program.
"Well, as you know, we've only found one intelligent species other than humans. These non-humans, as they're called, insist on living in our midst as equals. Of course we can't have this happening, so this new tax program is somewhat of a deterrant. It's ingenious is what it is, God Bless Earth."

A grand distance away the same topic had come up, among certain non-humans."So I've heard the humans instituted a new law to keep us out of their world, as if we'd want any part of the mess they've made."
"Come now Lewmip, you know that you don't have to get involved in this, let the humans do what they want. It's no bother to you, so why must you quibble about it?"
"It's just so queer Hylat, it's not as if we have shown them any bad signs. Simply because we're intelligent they automatically assume we want to live in their 'cities'. They think we're less than them."
"They're humans, what do you expect."
"I expect them to live up to the title of 'intelligent' instead of being so judgemental. I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the past, long before the third coming, we came from the same source."
Hylat laughed at his friend, and continued staring across the horizon at the ever constant glow from the human city. His own kind lived in small groups, moving from time to time, never having the patience to sit in one spot for too long like the humans did. He looked around at his tribe and thought of how they preferred natural light to artificial, and darkness to light. That was one of the major differences in psychology between the humans and the non's. Humans liked things to be lit up, non-humans liked them darker. Perhaps this subconcious preference was attributed to the fact that all humans had pale, light colored skin, and the non-humans had dark colored skin. He smiled to himself as the sun set in the sky behind him as he recalled a silly school rumor that humans and non-humans were, other than simple pigmentation, the same.
